چکیده

The objectives of this study were to investigate the effect starch and protein interaction on rumen environment, in situ digestion, total-tract digestibility nutrients weaned dairy calves between 8 16 wk age. Sixteen rumen-cannulated randomly divided into 4 dietary treatment groups with fed each treatment. diets had 2 levels [18%, low (LS), or 38%, high (HS)] [16%, (LP), 22%, (HP)] a dry matter (DM) basis calf grower: (1) LPLS, (2) LPHS, (3) HPLS, (4) HPHS. Calves for ad libitum intake (95% assigned grower 5% grass hay), refusals collected weekly. Total-tract collection procedures performed at 11 15 wk. Samples digestibility, hay (GH), soybean hulls (SBH), wheat middlings (WM), ground corn (GrC), meal (SBM) incubated 9 24 h. There was no calves. DM, neutral detergent fiber (NDF) acid (ADF) feed efficiency affected by both inclusion level diet. lower LS diets. Dry greater HP HS compared LP diets, respectively. Fiber (NDF ADF) less but Level did not affect DM NDF disappearance GH, increased SBH. High-starch decreased GH At 20 h after feeding, ruminal pH 0.51 unit higher HPHS LPHS. Total VFA proportion propionate versus LS, whereas acetate HS. SBM WM LPHS In our study, when HS, pH, digestion SBM, NDF, ADF increased. This provides evidence starch–protein recently Improvements suggest that are important 8- 16-wk-old

Interaction Between Crude Protein Level and Rumen Protected Amino Acids in Starter Diet on Performance of Dairy Calves

BACKGROUND: A limited number of studies have investigated the inclusion of amino acids in calf starter. OBJECTIVES: This study was aimed to evaluate different levels of crude protein in starter and supplement- ing some protected amino acids on efficiency, health status and blood metabolites of dairy calves and to com- pare it with unprotected amino acids. <st...

Prevalence of Giardia duodenalis genotypes in pre-weaned dairy calves.

To determine the prevalence of Giardia genotypes in pre-weaned dairy calves, fecal samples were collected from a minimum of 18, 1-7-week-old dairy calves per farm on two farms each in the states of Vermont, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida. Samples cleaned of fecal debris and concentrated using CsCl density gradient centrifugation were stained and examined...

Nutrition and Immunity for Pre-weaned Dairy Calves

Dairy calves are extremely susceptible to gastro-intestinal disease during the pre-weaned period. The risk for enteric disease decreases as the calf ages; therefore, it is important to break the pre-weaned period up into at least 2 distinct phases that likely need to be managed differently, early life (1st and maybe the 2nd week of life) and the remaining time the calf is fed fluid. When a calf...

Influence of dairy by-product waste milk on the microbiomes of different gastrointestinal tract components in pre-weaned dairy calves

The community structure of colonised bacteria in the gastrointestinal tracts (GITs) of pre-weaned calves is affected by extrinsic factors, such as the genetics and diet of the calves; however, the dietary impact is not fully understood and warrants further research. Our study revealed that a total of 6, 5, 2 and 10 bacterial genera showed biologically significant differences in the GITs of pre-...

Metaphylactic Use of DRAXXIN (tulathromycin) in Weaned Dairy Calves at High Risk for Infectious Respiratory Disease

• Metaphylactic antimicrobial treatment of weaned dairy calves immediately prior to movement from individual to group housing offers an opportunity to prevent bovine respiratory disease (BRD) in these high-risk animals. • The efficacy of DRAXXIN ® metaphylaxis in high-risk dairy calves was evaluated in 6 controlled research trials conducted in different regions of the US. • A single metaphylact...
